Sewanee IGS participates in “Decolonizing Comparative Methodologies” conference at Kennesaw State

April 1, 2013

On March 21 and 22, Professor Rohan Kalyan and three Sewanee seniors, including two International & Global Studies majors and one French Studies major, traveled to Kennesaw State University to participate in a symposium entitled "Decolonizing Comparative Methodologies."

The symposium was hosted by the Department of History and Philosophy, as well as co-sponsored by the participating institutions, including Kennesaw, Sewanee: the University of the South, Vassar College and Drake University.  Sophia Burton, Ann Marie Walker and DeAndre Espree-Conaway all presented short papers explicating theoretical concepts from postcolonial studies and relating these concepts to their senior research projects.  These students were also afforded the opportunity to engage with and exchange ideas with undergraduates from Kennesaw, Drake and Vassar, as well as the two keynote speakers who also came: Professor V.Y. Mudimbe from Duke University and Professor David Kim from the University of San Francisco.
